Case Study

IPAM project of large-size state-owned bank headquarters

DHCP automatic address acquisition is adopted for Internet IP access of various terminals in the headquarters of a large-size bank. However, general DHCP software usually fails to capture IP address due to performance and availability problems. It is impossible to trace IP resource utilization conditions and therefore it is not convenient for subsequent auditing.

The bank decided to adopt professional IPAM software for full life cycle management, including IP address planning, distribution, monitoring, controlling and auditing. With the IPAM software deployed and capitalizing on the security control feature of the switch, highly efficient, secure and auditable IP address management services become available. The bank has deployed two redundant IPAM servers and a professional synchronization mechanism that helps to guarantee the conformity of IP databases of the two servers. Please see the following Figure for the schematic diagram of the overall solution of the project:

After the project was launched into operation, the possibility of address distribution failure and system failure had substantially reduced. At the same time, it is possible to adjust and optimize IP address distribution and planning and trace IP address utilization record according to the IP resource utilization conditions as monitored by IPAM globally.
