Case Study

New network construction project of the provincial branch of a large-size state-owned bank

1.Project background

The provincial branch of a large-size state-owned bank intended to integrate its network system and establish an IP-application-based trunk network communication platform covering the provincial branch and various local subbranches and also an integrated data, audio and video network. It also intended to expand the bandwidth of the trunk network, integrate the security control and monitoring measures across the whole network, realize collective network administration and layered maintenance and hence provide a sound network environment for business development.

2. Project scale

According to the technical requirements of network construction and features of the application systems, this bank divides the network into the provincial branch LAN, municipal branch LAN, subbranch and outlet LAN, Tier-1 trunk network, Tier-2 trunk network, intracity tandem, Tier-3 access network and public liaison and public service zone.

The new network has a layered and modular structural design. Its main advantages include reduced impacts of single-point failure on the network and minimized risks. It also lays a very solid foundation for network expansions.

The project involved the following products: CISCO 7600 and 7300 tandem routers, CISCO 3845, 2851 and 2811 routers, Maipu 3840 and 2800 routers, CISCO 6506, 4507R, 4506 and 4948 switches, CISCO 3750, 3560 and 2960 switches as well as ASA5500 firewalls.
